MATSAPHA – New team! New champions for Police College Pool Knockout Tournament!

Sharpshooters proved to be just what their name suggests when they won their debutant pool teams competition hosted by the Police College over the weekend. New as the team is but not the talent – they are experienced players who have played the previous tournaments by the college but not for other clubs.

These are Dumisani ‘DU’ Mnyakeni, Thabo Dlamini, Tevez Mthimkhulu, Siboniso Shongwe, Israel Msibi and Duffy Mnyakeni. Led by their founder and director Mnyakeni, they were able to cue better than the rest and sink the black in style against runners-up Figaredo in the final – taking over from two-time champions Way Inn, who did not make much progress this time around.

The champions took home E2 000 cash, a trophy and gold medals. This was on Sunday afternoon after a whole night of action from 11am the previous day. The final score was 13-10. Figaredo had gone on a 9-6 lead but their youngsters got carried away and started celebrating early.

Their rivals, through the experience they have, requested for a break to have a breather and re-collect themselves, which worked wonders as they came back to level matters before going ahead to win the match.
Figaredo were presented with E1 200 cash, plus silver medals while their rivals in the semi-finals Bel-Air got E700 and bronze for coming third. Taking fourth was Manzini Pool Club who received E500 before Uni-k, Police College, MPC and Matsapha United each got E150 for being fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth respectively.
