VICTOR SHOULD REPLACE BOMBER - BENNETT

MBABANE – Outspoken businessman and former Senator Walter Bennett has come out guns blazing on the latest poor perfomance by the Senior National Soccer team, Sihlangu, which he attributes to NFAS President Adam ‘Bomber’ Mtsetfwa.

A seething Bennett said if one compared the performance of Sihlangu to that of Premier League of Swaziland side Mbabane Swallows, it was clear that the person leading the latter team should be the one who should take over the reins from Mtsetfwa.

He was referring to Mbabane Swallows FC Chairman Victor Gamedze who also happens to be the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) Chairman. Bennett said Mtsetfwa had overstayed his welcome as leader of the country’s football association, just like the former FIFA President Sepp Blatter, who had the support of Mtsetfwa despite the many corruption cases that were brought against him. The ex-senator said Swazis loved Sihlangu but Mtsetfwa had done good in turning the nation against the national soccer team by appointing Dutch national Pieter De Jongh as head coach in favour of local gaffer Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga.

“Swazis are not stupid. When they see excellence and good, they are there in their numbers right across the spectrum. One of the basics about leadership is being responsive, not being stubborn and ignoring calls by the nation,” Bennett said. The nation has called for the sacking of De Jongh and the re-appointment of ‘Madze’ but Mtsetfwa has thrown his weight behind the Dutch coach.

Speaking of De Jongh’s appointment, Bennett said: “Where do they get these obscure coaches? Are we a marketing agency for novices? What type of broom is this one that gathers dust instead of getting rid of it? Sihlangu is the nation and His Majesty’s pride. The King and the Prime Minister even attend its games. Ever since the King became head of state, the national team has not won even a single trophy, let alone a tea cup. Why then do we still have the same person in charge of our football?”

He said it was high time that people like Gamedze took over and were supported by other individuals such as Nichodemus ‘Ace’ Mashwama (former FA Vice President) and Mashumi Shongwe, who lost the presidential race to Mtsetfwa. Bennett said the fact that Mbabane Swallows was performing exceptionally while Sihlangu had disintegrated spoke volumes about the leadership of the two teams.
“What is Bomber delivering? This is an insult, a real insult to the nation. The FA is no longer a Football Association but a Futile Attempt at excellence. Not a single trophy has been won under Bomber’s leadership. I do not know Victor personally but I see and read about him in the newspapers and his capabilities cannot be doubted. The results of Mbabane Swallows and Sihlangu are miles apart,” he said.
