MBABANE – It remains to be seen if Women Football Association (WFA) Chairman Sonnyboy Mabuza will keep his seat as association affiliates are up in arms.

After certain clubs reported concerns to the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) on Sunday at the Somhlolo National Stadium, on the alleged corruption in the elections held during their General Assembly at Sigwaca House.

The formal letter of demand reached the NFAS offices yesterday. “Six teams have signed on the letter to confirm the five grievances we forwarded as anomalies on the day of the elections and general assembly as a whole. Our legal advisor had assured us the letter which seeks the NFAS to take action and have the elections restarted, would reach the mother body today (yesterday).

“Due to other commitments, the legal advisor requested to have it submitted to the NFAS as of today (yesterday), as he was held up in other work commitments,” said one of the leaders of the campaign on condition of anonymity yesterday. Another member confirmed that among other things they listed was; the active participation of an NFAS Executive Board member; one of the winners on the day having an assistant secretary in another national football association, the non-affiliation of teams, as only five were confirmed to be affiliated but nine voted, which is against the WFA Constitution and most importantly the 50 per cent +1 election rule.

“When we talk of the 50 per cent  +1 rule to win an election, our chairman got five votes out of nine voting teams. Half of nine is 4.5 and when you say plus one, it should be 5.5 votes, so we have a string case and besides, how do teams play competitions, get prizes when they are not affiliated members?” wondered the member.
