MBABANE –Mbabane Swallows were left cursing their gods in the TZD Legends Cup when they failed to progress to the semi-finals despite putting up a five-star performance.

The retired Birds stars put their Royal Leopard counterparts to the sword with a 5-0 thrashing, but their dreams were shattered after Moneni Pirates held Green Mamba 2-all to advance at their expense.
However, on the day, Swallows, who paraded the likes of Zimbabwean’s Stanford Ncube, Wandile ‘Wawa’ Mazibuko, Bongiswa Nhlabatsi and Bright Zondo, among others, failed to reach the semi-finals with the police side in group A.
It was not a good start for both teams as they failed to submit 11 players each. The games started with Leopard having only eight players while Swallows had 10.

Green Mamba and Moneni Pirates, who played a 2-all draw yesterday in their clash at Trade Fair sports ground, both made it to the semi-finals. Green Mamba finished top of the group with seven points while Pirates were second on 5 points.

Swallows’ biggest win did not  stop them reaching the semi-finals as they finished third at four points while Leopard were last   without a point having lost all their matches. They will now wait for the winners in group B that comprise Mbabane Highlanders, Manzini Wanderers, Manzini Sundowns and Young Buffaloes.

TZD Director Zakhele Dlamini said they will be finalising group B matches at a venue yet to be confirmed. He said the fixture will be released during the week.
