MBABANE – Midas City’s top striker, Simanga Shongwe is now a ‘Bird’.

Even before the euphoria around their CAF Confederation Cup exploits could die down, Mbabane Swallows have made their biggest transfer catch.
The red and white glamour side have pulled a ‘Jose Mourinho’ over the trio of Mbabane Highlanders, Manzini Wanderers and Royal Leopard in capturing the much sought after Mbabane Midas City sharp-shooter Simanga Shongwe.
The Sihlangu front man is among the couple of new signings that the Thabo Koki Vilakati coached side would unveil soon.

A Mbabane Midas City source disclosed that the two teams have agreed terms over his clearance and what was left was the parties to sign on the dotted line.
“He is as good as a Swallows’ player now and we hope he will fit in well there,” the source said.

Mbabane Swallows General Manager Sandile ‘Beyond 2000’ Zwane was careful in his choice of words when contacted on the issue.
“He is among the list of players that our coaches recommended that we sign. But I prefer not to reveal anything until all the necessary processes have been completed regarding his signings,” he said.
He said the team was cognisant of the upcoming tough CAF Champions League campaign.

Capable

“The coming season will be tough domestically and internationally. As a team we are planning ahead like we said that we will boost our current squad with new but capable players,” he said.
Mbabane Midas City’s out going chairperson could only refer all comments to Mbabane Swallows over the player, saying he was in South Africa.
He is the second player from Midas City to join the treble winning side, after defender Ndumiso ‘Tower’ Ndaba who after a short loan spell for the CAF Confederation Cup, completed his move to the team.
Shongwe has been the vital cog at the Caleb Ngwenya coached Midas City side which scaled to highest heights in the 2015/16 season by finishing fifth in the MTN League with 34 points. They once again made the top eight this season with 25 points.
