NGWENYA – 4Eva Cycling Club’s Ayanda Dlamini is fast becoming Swaziland’s ‘half marathon’ specialist.

The 22-year-old, who is dominating in the second longest road races, was a champion in Saturday’s Engen Ngwenya Glass Mountain Bike (MTB) 40km event in 02:05:10 hours. In second place was equally forceful teammate, Mcebo Langa, in 02:07:40 hours. “It was tough because of the climbs.
“It was a good race overall as the markings were clear,” said Dlamini, who was making his second stop in Ngwenya. The race was won by Muzi Shabangu in the past year. He had clocked 01:59:02 hours. He was a notable absentee on Saturday.

Meanwhile, former national MTB champion, Sifiso Mhlanga, who ranked seventh in the 70km event, allayed fears that he was running out of mileage. He said there were a lot of factors that were contributing to his sudden drop in performance.
“Today I endured the race with a back pain.
“I think I need a new bicycle as I’ve been using the same ‘bike’ for four years,” he said.
Over 200 cyclists took part in the races.
