NKONYENI – Perseverance paid off for golfer Brian Mabuza who was crowned champion of the Lidwala Epilepsy Golf tournament in his sixth attempt yesterday.

Mabuza defeated a field of 76 golfers to win the annual event at the state of the art Nkonyeni Golf Estate.
He won on 41 points while Benedict Bennett was second on 40 points and August Pienaar was third on 39 points.
Commenting on his win, Mabuza said he came to the tournament full of confidence.

The Usutu Forest Golf Club members said he had a practice session ahead of the tournament in the morning and that boosted his performance on the day.
“It was a challenging field and Nkonyeni Golf Course had never been easy for me. I had never missed an edition of the tournament since its inception six years ago and I’m happy that finally I stand in the podium as the champion,” he said.
He said he would be ready to defend his title next year. Presenting the winners was Swaziland Epilepsy Organisation (SEO) Patron Prince Bandzile, Lidwala Insurance Company General Manager Alfred Madondo, SEO National Director Mbusomuni Mahlalela and Executive Mayor of the City of Mbombela Sibusiso Mathonsi among others.
Before tee-off, the golfers watched the Deputy Prime Minister Paul Dlamini teeing off with SEO Patron Prince Bandzile.
