MBABANE – Adventurous and daring cyclists return to the trails for the challenging Engen Ngwenya Glass Mountain Bike Challenge on Saturday.

Eyes are local cyclists as they are eager to end their jinx in the event that has been dominated by visiting South Africa’s Max Knox, who clocked 02:51:27 hours in the past year. The main event, which is 70km long, will start at 8am.  The race is at high altitude and off-road races enthusiasts’ endurance is put to the test. With a total ascent of 1,379 metres – the route is not for the faint-hearted or weak-legged.

The route of the 70km includes forest roads, cattle paths (single track) and unused railway lines, with a balance of undulating hills. There are steep climbs and wicked down-hills as well.  Competitors will again be spoilt for choice as there are three more races to choose from. They will cover a distance of 43, 20 and 7km and will start between 9am and 9:30am. Meanwhile, proceeds from the race have been used to purchase blankets and water projects for the local community through which the race passes.
