MBABANE – Swazi Bolt broke a new national record in 100 Lachaux de Fond competition in Switzerland, but will get a paltry E1000 incentive for his achievement.

The amount is what the Athletics Association of Swaziland AAS award to individuals who break national records.
Matsenjwa clocked 10:31 seconds bettering the 10:35seconds record.

He also earned himself the same amount when he breaks the previous record in Mauritius to 10:35 seconds.
AAS Secretary Thoba Mazibuko admitted that the incentive did not meet the magnitude of the athlete’s performance especially in international competition. He said they also wanted to see the incentive being improved. He said they hope they could get assistance from the Business sector as most of the top athletes in the world have their own private sponsors.

“It is a challenge because he is competing at a big stage we plead with the country’s business people to also join and assist to see the sport grow in the country. Matsenjwa is doing well at international level and this is proven b y breaking the national record,” he said. Mazibuko said they welcome any sort of assistance whether it can be in form of sponsorship for clothing, training, and incentives amongst other things.

Matsenjwa will be competing in Lucerne next Tuesday before he returns back home after three weeks in Europe for the World Championships training camp.
Matsenjwa will join the world from August 4 to the 13th where he would be competing in the IAAF World Championships. The Royal Swaziland Police (RSP) athlete will compete only in 200m and the only chance for him to run 100m it is when he can clock the qualifying time which is 10:04 seconds.
