MBABANE – Without a doubt, if Mbabane Swallows lose on Sunday, their game against Platinum Stars next weekend will be mere formality.

Swallows host Tunisia’s CS Sfaxien in the return leg of the Total CAF Confederation Cup in a must-win clash at the Somhlolo National Stadium at 3pm. They are yet to lose a match in that stadium since last season - domestically and internationally.

They are going into the Sfaxien match placed third in group B on four points while the visitors are second on seven points to eight by topping team MC Alger of Algeria. Any result other than a win for Swallows renders their quarterfinal dream over even before playing basement side Platinum Stars next week in Rustenburg.

“There’s no running from it now. CAF has released the fixture for Sunday at 3pm. It’s a Cup final for us. Swazis know how Mbabane Swallows prepare for that. If we were giving it 100 per cent  then we’ve taken it to 120 per cent right now,” the Umkhonto KaShaka coach Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati said yesterday.

He said as much as it was early in the week, they started preparing immediately after the MC Alger away clash. “We started preparing the players mentally and also started training on Sunday where we have a full squad as the players who had been left behind due to injuries are all back and giving us a selection headache, which is healthy for us given the magnitude of the match. If we don’t win here then the Platinum Stars game will just be a formality,” he said.
He then appealed for tripled support from the nation as this was not just about them but the country too.
