LOBAMBA – Madlenya started their campaign for promotion to the elite league on a high note when they beat Vovovo 2-0 in their opening match yesterday.

Madlenya, who finished the game with 10 men after Bheki Shongwe was shown a red card with eight minutes before the break, scored both goals in the second half. It was Vovovo who dominated the game from start to finish but failed to utilise their scoring chances.

Madlenya took the league through Jules Marie Kouda Olouda 10 minutes into the second half, when a well taken shot outside 18 area landed at the top right corner, leaving Vovovo goalkeeper Tuto Gama stunned.

Six minutes after the hour mark, Vovovo could have equalised through Sibusiso Thwala but his shot missed target by inches, having been left unmarked in the 18 area. The Hhohho based side continues to push for an equaliser but through strikers Phinda Nkonyane who was in as a substitute with Mancoba Mavimbela and Sibusiso Thwala, all their chances went begging.

Madlenya’s second goal came via the boot of Ndumiso Fakudze who netted from 25 yards, beating the goalkeeper on the same spot of the first goal.
