MBABANE – Three days into the much anticipated FA Presidential elections, the legal tussle between the football mother body and Mashumi Shongwe gathers momentum.

In an urgent application before the High Court, Shongwe said following the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) notice to appeal Judge Ticheme’s judgement on Shongwe’s ban from football last week, he wants the court to allow the verdict to stand pending the appeal.

He is being represented by lawyers from SK Dlamini and Company.
The FA is opposing the application and is represented by Noel Mabuza from SV Mdladla Attorneys in Mbabane.
The matter was before Justice Sipho Nkosi yesterday, where it was ruled that the matter should be taken back to Judge Ticheme who heard the earlier application by Shongwe.

In his prayers, Shongwe said following that the FA which is the second respondent in the matter, had issued a notice for Sunday’s elective AGM, he sought the court to issue an interim order allowing him to stand for the elections. He said he had been nominated for the position of president, and the obtaining scenario puts him at a disadvantage going to the elections.

He said the interim order should allow the ruling issued by Judge Ticheme, which set aside his one year ban by the FA to be executable. He also wants to be included among the three candidates for the FA president. The veracity of the affidavit is yet to be tested in a court of law.
