MBABANE – While his Swaziland-based former team has endured a disastrous season, former Mbabane Highlanders dribbling wizard Patrick Meso is celebrating winning promotion to South Africa’s National First Division.

Meso, who left Highlanders before the start of the recently-ended campaign, survived the ABC Motsepe League play-offs with Kwazulu-Natal outfit, Uthongathi, in the past weekend. The side beat a team styled Super Eagles by 1-0 in the decider to pocket E800 000 on top of a ticket to that country’s football second-tier.

The team’s total earnings were at E1 million, but the E200 000 would be for a youth football project to be chosen by Uthongathi in consultation with the South African Football Association (SAFA) and Motsepe Foundation.

The player joined the champions from another side styled Magesi FC during the January transfer window.
He scored nine goals.

He told this publication that he missed being in Swaziland, but he was undecided if he would play in the country again.
“I really do miss Swaziland and before our pre-season I have to visit again. It is my next home,” said the gifted winger.

Meanwhile, Meso stressed that Highlanders remained close to his heart and he was considering recruiting two good players for the ‘Black Bull’.
Lanky forward, Ngcebo Zulu, who was offloaded at Highlanders midway through the 2015/16 season, also played for the regional champions.
