MBABANE – If you thought Mbabane Swallows were only making rave reviews across Africa then think again because they have attracted interest from as far Europe.

This became evident when an unnamed Belgian club made enquiries about the predatory striker Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa. Swallows confirmed yesterday that after all media speculation in and outside the country about their player being wanted by several South African teams, that ‘only a Belgium team and two from South Africa’ made direct contact with them.

“We have seen all the reported teams that are said to be interested in our striker but to us it’s just rumours because they haven’t contacted us. We know of a team from Belgium that even went on to offer him an air ticket as soon as we tell them when he can fly over,” said the club’s General Manager Sandile ‘Beyond ‘2000’ Zwane when questioned about the news.

A close source had said the team would for now allow the player to focus on their Total CAF Confederation Cup campaign as they have set targets to go past the group stage to the quarter-finals. From thereon, Swallows believe they can start working on reaching the finals and make history for local football and their brand.

“We will only decide after the Platinum Stars game. There are other two teams from South Africa being Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United, who have also made direct contact and any other team we’re not considering,” Zwane said.
It was also said that giants Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and Amazulu were not considered because they only showed interest through other people as opposed to coming to the club and making official requests to have their player for signing or assessment purposes.

Efforts to try and get the Belgian club’s name failed as when the source was contacted, he had already left office. Given that all transfer of players is handled by the club’s Chairman, Victor Gamedze, nicknamed Maradona, for his exploits during his heyday in the red and white colours, he was also sought for comment. However, Gamedze said Zwane was the right person to comment.

In essence, Ndzinisa will only be available for any trials after July 7 which is when they will be away to Platinum Stars for the last group stage match of the CAF Confederation Cup. The forward finished the season with 22 league goals while also shining in other tournaments like the SwaziBank Cup where he shared the top scorer’s prize and in the Ingwenyama Cup respectively.
