MBABANE – The Swaziland Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (SOCGA) has pumped over in E134 000 to the Swaziland Boxing Association (SWABA).

The money comes from the Olympic movement’s African Grant Programme that seeks to help associations prepare athletes adequately for international events like the Commonwealth Games, Olympic Games and African Championships. The exact amount received by SWABA US$10 000 (about E134 246) and will be used across three spectrums, participation in the Triple Nation International Tournament, sending six athletes to Pretoria’s High Performance Centre for scientific testing and also stage monthly tournaments.

“We are grateful to SOCGA for the support which will come in handy in selecting and training the post possible athletes for next year’s Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in Australia,” said SWABA president Pearl Dlamini.
Yesterday, six boxers left the country for the Triple Nation International Tournament to feature South Africa, Mozambique and Swaziland today and on Monday and Tuesday, the pugilists will undergo scientific testing that includes Anthropometry, Strength and Conditioning and Movement Screen and Video (MCS) at the HPC.

After the testing, the boxers will come back with detailed reports on where they will have to improve according to Dlamini.
These are the same tests that were done by light fly weight bronze medallist Simanga ‘The Boer’ Shiba at the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
