MBABANE – Matsapha United midfielder Vusumuzi Zungu was in scintillating form during the 2016/2017 season and finally his effort has been recognised.
The midfielder scooped the player of the year award during the MTN/PLS Awards held at Royal Swazi Spa yesterday.

Zungu pocketed home E7 000 for this award. The player also won the player of the month award in December 2016 and March 2017.
Speaking after receiving the award, Zungu attributed his achievement to his team-mates.

“Well to be honest, my teams-mates played a pivotal role in me winning this award. I also want to thank the management, technical bench and supporters who all contributed towards the success of the team,” said Zungu.
Also to get an award from the ‘Deep Blue’ was their acting CEO Victor ‘Mavikana’ Dlamini, who bagged the award for the PRO of the Year which was worth E3 500.

“Firstly I would like to thank the select committee for seeing that I was the best candidate for the award. We have a huge mandate as a team, we are ready for Premier League and we will not be adding numbers but will compete and make our presence felt. I also want to thank all Matsapha supporters and management for choosing the right candidate in me, and I will ensure that I market and promote the team wherever I am,” said Dlamini.

Meanwhile the top goal scorer award went to Malanti Chiefs goal banger Gomez Gondwe, who scored 16 goals throughout the season in the National First Division. He, however, was not present during the event and his award was received by the team’s PRO Lungile Dube.

The award for the best coach went to Malanti Chiefs’ Mduduzi Nxumalo, who contributed immensely in the team being promoted to the elite league.
“Well I would like to thank the sponsor and PLS for such recognition. I did not expect this award but my main focus was helping the team to gain promotion and we managed to do that. As they say, if you focus on the job at hand, awards come as a bonus,” said Nxumalo.
Hlatikhulu Tycoons were handed the Fair Play Award.
