MBABANE – Manzini Wanderers ladies team made it double against Durban Msasa Ladies over the weekend during the Department of Sports and Recreation Cup.

The maroon and white outfit cruised to a 4-0 win in the first match before  winning 2-0 in the second game to be crowned the champions. Wanderers were crowed the champions in 2015, the last time they honoured the invitation.

The scorers for Wanderers in the second match were Tenanile Ngcamphalala and Badelisile Ngozo. The team Manager Sicelo Simelane said they were invited to the tournament after having a successful season whereby they won the league without losing or playing a draw. They also lost 2-0 against Young Buffaloes ladies in the FA Women’s Cup finals.

Simelane said the team travelled with 26 players and were lucky because each player was motivated ahead of the tournament as an anonymous sponsor catered for the trip and also awarded each player with E600 allowance.
“We are happy that some people are contributing positively to the ladies team and it is encouraging. Results are coming fourth and they are improving their game in every match they play,” he said.

Simelane said for the whole trip they needed about E40 000 and a good Samaritan came forward and sponsored the trip. The players were also hosted to a braai after being crowned the champions.
The team’s coach is Bongani Makhukhula.

“We appreciate the help we got from some of the people who support the club. Everything went according to plan and thanks to all the financial support we got from some of the members of the club. We even had a safe and sound transport to and from Durban and our accommodation was okay. This has motivated the players and we hope to do better next season,” he said.
