My dearest readers ... National team, Sihlangu Belgian coach, Pieter De Jongh, whose fill-in-the-blanks Curriculum Vitae does not make for riveting reading, left the country as a persona-non-grata last Wednesday after his inflammatory comments about the previous Sihlangu coach, Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga being unprofessional, not only touched a raw nerve but got many soccer followers hot under the collar.

Judging from the reaction-like-an-acid from some of the football followers, you would have sworn De Jongh had mugged their mothers or had said ‘Madze’ was a bricklayer posing as a coach. Yes, De Jongh’s provocative comments were unfortunate and very unprofessional. Even if he held such an opinion about his predecessor he should not have pronounced it so publicly especially considering that ‘Madze’ himself is on record that he has not met De Jongh in person.

He cannot tell De Jongh not just from a bar of soap but he may not be sure whether he is one of those Boer farmers in the hinterlands of South Africa which he has a semblance of or not (my words, not Madze’s...Heek, heek, heek). It is an indictment on the part of the National Fumblers...er Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) that the two coaches – past and present – have not met. Methinks they should have been a proper hand-over from the past to the present coach conducted by the FA. De Jongh does reserve the right not to consult ‘Madze’ if he wants because ancient wise-men hinted many moons ago that it is the main reason a car’s rear-view mirror is smaller than the windscreen – he must focus on the future, not what’s behind him.

But still, he cannot afford to take pot-shots at ‘Madze’ because this will derail him. It would also be professional – seeing that this is a word he throws away at whim - too, of De Jongh, to have a chat with the various team coaches as part of his consultative exercise instead of being aloof or publicly rebuking one of his colleagues. Hope you get that De Jongh!
