‘BIRDS’ TO FLY AWAY WITH E200 000 FROM MANGOSUTHU LEGACY CUP

MBABANE – The ‘Beautiful Birds’ of Mbabane are flying away with the cash – home and away.

While Mbabane Swallows are guaranteed of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) E3.4 million bounty for reaching the Confederation Cup’s group stages, having also netted slightly over E3.2 million for winning a Treble (Castle Challenge Cup, Ingwenyama Cup and the MTN League title) on the domestic front, the ‘Birds’ are now guaranteed E200 000 for agreeing to participate in the Prince Mangosuthu Legacy Cup.

The tournament will be held at Ulundi Regional Sports Complex on July 29. It will feature former ABSA Premiership side Amazulu, Bloemfontein Celtic and an unnamed South African team.
Swallows boss Victor ‘Maradona’ Gamedze confirmed the invitation from the organisers of the tournament and that as a team they will honour it.

The tournament is expected to feature top names in South African music, including the award-winning Big Nuz, Durban’s finest’s, DJ Tira and DJ Sox of the ‘Msindo’ fame, Ricky Rick, DJ Bongz, and the sultry Babes Wodumo. There will also be a live screening of the Carling Black Label Cup featuring Soweto giants Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs at the stadium.

“We are honoured by the invitation and we have accepted it,” Gamedze said briefly.
Swallows General Manager Sandile ‘Beyond 2000’ Zwane said they will be taking a full strength squad and their ‘12th player’, which is the hordes of their red, white and blue clad legions of honey-throated fans.
“There is a launch of the tournament on Wednesday at Ebukhosini Ulundi. This tournament is a kingdom versus a kingdom. We are grateful for the event and we will be giving our fans all the details after the launch so that they can travel to Durban to turn the stadium red,” Zwane said.
