MATSAPHA – Manzini Sundowns Under-20 are one step away from snatching the PLS Reserve League after their 3-0 victory over Midas City yesterday.

Sundowns are at the summit of the log with 25 points after yesterday victory with one game remaining. Royal Leopard who settled for a 1-all draw against Manzini Wanderers is second with 22 points after the disappointing draw. A win or a draw for Sundowns in their last clash of the season, will see them being crowned the champions.

The game against Midas City started on a high note at the University of Swaziland (UNISWA), Kwaluseni Campus. Both teams created scoring chances but the first half ended with none breaking the deadlock.
On resumption of the second half, the title-chasing Sundowns started like a house on fire, taking full control of the match. Their efforts finally paid off after an hour of relentless attacking when Siyabonga Dlamini easily beat City’s goalkeeper Andile Dlamini from inside the box. With only 15 minutes remaining, Sundowns were back again through Lwandile Ginindza whose ground shot was too hard for the goalkeeper.

This goal proved to be the match winner as Leopard did not show any signs of coming back into it – instead it was Sundowns who got a third through the league’s top scorer Muziwakhe Mahlalela three minutes from time.
At the sound of the final whistle, the UNISWA Sports Ground witnessed unprecedented joy from Sundowns, especially after their coach Penuel Malinga told his players the Leopard result; who had every reason – it was actually a double celebration. They now have one had on the title and also needed Leopard not to win and that was the case.

Sundowns also won the match in front of their Chairman Mark Carmichael, PLS’ COO Pat Vilakati and PLS Development Managers Dumisani ‘DU’ Sibandze and Banele Masondo among other fans.
Army side Young Buffaloes had been the dominant side in this league, winning it three consecutive times in its four years of existence.
