MBABANE – Mbabane Highlanders can heave a sigh of relief after PLS Governors voted for one season 14-team league trial.
The decision was taken on Wednesday night during a Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) Board of Governors Special Meeting held at Sigwaca House.

The meeting culminated from a correspondence from the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) Executive Committee, sanctioning the PLS to take a decision on the matter.

A source close to the issue confided in this publication that the FA executive committee felt that the proposal of a 14-team league was a prerogative of the elite football mother body, by virtue of being administrative by nature.

“A resolution was taken to have the 12th team in the premier league, Manzini Sea Birds, contesting in a three-team relegation play-off against the third and fourth place finishers in the National First Division League for the 14th spot in the new-look 14-team league,” confided one source.

The obtaining scenario means that Mbabane Highlanders, who were already preparing for life in the second-tier of local football, would be given another chance to compete in the senior league. Manzini Sea Birds will go for play-offs with two First Division teams, one of them being Vovovo F.C and or Mbabane Citizen or Madlenya F.C.

City Warriors and Ludzeludze Brothers will be automatically relegated to the Lubombo and Manzini Super League respectively. Sikhalo SeAfrika and Bad Boys will escape the drop too.
