‘FITNESS IMPORTANT IN MODERN FOOTBALL’

LOBAMBA – There was no denying the prevailing air of determination and excitement inside the conference room as over 20 fitness coaches were taken through their lessons by FIFA Specialist Gary Philips.


Separated into groups of four the learners comprised of a section of recently retired stars such as Mbuso Gina, Sitali Mulife, Dennis Fakudze and the still going Moneni Pirates defender Menzi ‘Magawugawu’ Simelane. They were a market of ideas as they brainstormed tasks given by Philips, who facilitated alongside FA Technical Director Boy ‘Bizzah’ Mkhonta. Philips said the course was more on enlightening coaches about the importance of fitness training in modern football.


“Football is about athleticism and we are teaching them to design fitness training sessions. I am happy at the attendance and the enthusiasm shown by the coaches. They are embarking on a lifelong journey of learning which they should embrace with both hands,” he said. Other senior coaches who attended the course included; Manzini Wanderers Assistant coach Clement ‘King Clay’ Mdluli, Dumisani ‘DU’ Makhanya, Christian Thwala, Wilton Mamba to name a few.


Magawugawu said the course was an eye-opener to him and that he was ready to implement the knowledge obtained during the course to his team. “We are being taught on how to prepare pre-season and surely we need to start implementing these things for the betterment of our clubs,” he said.


The course started on Monday and will end tomorrow.
