A HISTORIC MTN PREMIER LEAGUE SEASON INDEED

It gives me great pleasure to look back at what has been surely an exciting season in the premier league history.

The MTN Premier League was particularly a joy to watch for football fans and this was illustrated by the growing numbers at the stadiums.
I am sure a lot of people will agree that people have been forking out their hard-earned money to support the league games in big numbers compared to previous seasons. This is what we want to see happening all the time and we thank our loyal football followers for attending games and creating an electrifying atmosphere at stadiums.

The best thing about this good attendance is that is just did not end with premier league games, but the same scenario was witnessed even in the MTN National First Division League games, something we are very proud of as PLS.
This is the spirit we want to encourage because we have not been short of excitement even in the first division, where there was fierce competition for promotion places between Matsapha United, Malanti Chiefs and Vovovo FC, making the games very exciting to watch.
There is, however, still big room for improvement as we look forward to the new season. In the past, premier league games used to be littered with unsavoury cases of misconduct, particularly on the side of football fans, putting their teams in huge financial troubles as a result of hefty DC fines they are sometimes compelled to pay as punishment.

It has been really pleasant to note that the number of DC cases has drastically dropped compared to previous seasons, which should tell us that football people now understand what the game is all about.
They have clearly outgrown this bad habit of engaging in unnecessary violent scenes thus, crippling and tainting the image of the PLS.
We would like to encourage this new attitude we are witnessing from football fans and hope it will now be something we see in the new season, because it promotes the partnership we have with our different sponsors and ensures proper cost-cutting at clubs because they do not have to pay heavy fines if there are no DC cases to answer.

The marketing efforts of our premier league sponsor cannot be overlooked. It was a completely different marketing strategy from the mobile company, something we have not seen before. The marketing team at MTN led by Meshack Maseko deserves credit for rolling up their sleeves and making our work even much easier going forward.
