MBABANE – One phone call made at around 3am to Manzini Sundowns boss Mark Carmichael on the eve of their final MTN Premier League match of the season is set to cost five players their place in the team.

The phone call, from another elite team boss, who happened to spot the club’s players, names deliberately withheld, at a certain drinking hole in Manzini at around 3am on May 6, a few hours before their final league match against Midas Mbabane City, ruined it all for them.
This was revealed during the team’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) last Saturday at Manzini Club.  The Basop i-Kappa Kappa ensemble’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Muzi Matsenjwa chaired the meeting in the absence of their boss Mark Carmichael who, however, had prepared his speech for Matsenjwa to pass on to the supporters.

“Our chairman indicated that there will be players put on transfer and new ones brought in next season. Among those who will be transferred, he made it clear that ahead of our Midas City league game, he got a call reporting our players in a drinking spree in one of the places in the city and that’s one of the reasons we’re getting rid of them,” Matsenjwa said.

The players alleged to have gone partying on the night had their names withheld even though some of the supporters already know them. It is said the supporters were also behind the decision to do away with the players and leave the committed ones.
“Their names will be released soon as they have not yet been told. The only player that is already not with us is Sicelo Mkhwanazi, who was given clearance and left for home in South Africa,” he explained.
Carmichael was called on the matter.
