MBABANE – For the first time in four years, the PLS Reserve/Under-20 League looks bound to have new champions – a revamped Manzini Sundowns lead in the ‘catch us if you can’ title race.

It is only three games to go in the league after the past weekend’s games with all top four teams mathematically still in with a good chance to win the title. But it is Sundowns who have been consistent this season, recording seven wins and one loss in eight games. Their latest win was against Red Lions, who they drubbed 7-0 over the weekend.

They won two more games than defending champions Young Buffaloes, who won the previous three titles and are currently placed third on the log table. Midas City are fourth, just two points behind Buffaloes, five away from second-placed Royal Leopard but have a game in hand, which leaves them with 12 points to play for.

City have a pending fixture with Tambuti and if they win it, they will certainly leapfrog Buffaloes to third. Back to Sundowns, the Basop i-Kappa ensemble has scored the most goals at 21, while the closest to that is Buffaloes with 19 goals.

One more win for Sundowns could eliminate Buffaloes from the race while to eliminate Leopard and Midas City will take them two wins and the championship will be done and dusted. If Sundowns manage to get the two wins in the three remaining games, then Buffaloes will for once have failed to retain their dominance.

The army team recently got crowned for their second Esibayeni Lodge Under-17 League title and SwaziBank Cup Under-20 Knockout 2017 tournament for the first time in four years.
