NGWENYA – CAF Confederations Cup envoys Mbabane Swallows endured a torturous trip back home from Tunisia.

On top of being stranded at the Carthage International Airport in Tunisia on Sunday after missing the 1:15pm flight to Dubai, the red and white glamour giants’ trip was punctuated with mores stops after the 0-1 loss to CS Sfaxien on Saturday.  They eventually arrived at the airport in Dubai on Tuesday night at 10pm, but their flight to Johannesburg, South Africa, was scheduled for 3am the following day.

After a nine-hour flight to Johannesburg, they connected their luxurious sprinter bus to Swaziland yesterday. They finally arrived in the country through the Oshoek Border Post around 3pm.

Meanwhile, in Tunisia, Swallows were delayed after the coach they were travelling in developed mechanical problems twice along the way from Sfax to the Tunisian Capital, Tunis. Swallows arrived at the airport an hour after the check-in time. The bus provided by the host team developed mechanical problems two times along the 500km journey to the airport, where the red and white glamour side were due to fly aboard the Emirates Airbus to Dubai.

Head coach Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati felt the strenuous journey would do little to dampen the spirit of his troops, saying training would resume this morning.  He missed the other Group match between Algeria’s MC Alger and Tuesday’s opponents, Platinum Stars, which was televised on SuperSport, but said that was the least of his worries as he would watch it online. The game ended in a 1-all draw.
“We’re damn tired, but unfortunately this is business. We need to do the job.

“I understand Platinum Stars are playing against Kaizer Chiefs today (yesterday) in a league match, but their approach will be different,” said Vilakati. Despite the tiring journey, team General Manager, Sandile Zwane, said CS Sfaxien were good hosts as they were never ill-treated at any point. “We’re relieved to be back home.
