MBABANE – Manzini Steels are eyeing to finish the first round of the MTN SNB League at the summit of the log.

They are at the top of the log, with one game remaining before the curtain falls for the first round matches. They are enjoying the lead with 11 points after their 72-34 win over Mbabane Raptors on Saturday. Second is Mbabane Jazz with 10 points after six games, while the defending champions Manzini Superstars are third with the same number of points.

The Swaziland National Basketball League (SNBL) Secretary Mandla Shongwe, said after the first round games this Saturday they will take a two-month break.

He said the games would resume after the Swaziland Invitational International Basketball Tournament (SIIBT) billed for June 23-25.
In the National Women’s League, Superladies are at the top of the log with seven points and closely followed by Phoenix Alumni with six points, while Lady Jazz is third on five points.

Manzini Titans are leading in the Men’s promotion League with eight points and second is RSSC Tridents with seven points.
“After the first round games, we will give teams the break to prepare for the international basketball tournament scheduled for next month. We believe early July we will then start the second round which we expected to be more competitive,” he said.

The basketball league was sponsored to the tune of E250 000 by MTN Swaziland, and there are 18 teams playing in three leagues that are benefitting from the generous sponsor.
Eight of the teams are campaigning in the elite men’s league while the women’s and men’s promotion leagues have five teams each.
