MBABANE – In the wake of a long overdue move by the PLS to ban the unrecognised patrons and elders in elite teams’ structures, Manzini Wanderers stand to forfeit at least over E200 000 in prize monies.

This, after committing themselves to a E600 000 loan agreement with the PLS to run until end of this season, which is nearly over with only a few teams including Wanderers left with one game to wrap up.

The maroon and white hub giants had been paying back the loan through gate collections, which saw them lose E10 000 in the SwaziBank Cup quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively. The remainder of the loan, according to the PLS’ agreement, for all teams other than just Wanderers must be settled by end of the season.

“The office of the PLS issued statements to the owing clubs and they know the agreements we have with them. We cannot, therefore, start talking figures in the media when we communicate that to the clubs but yes, prize monies and gate collections are the way to repay us with some of the clubs depending on how much has been owed or is owed by end of the season,” PLS COO Pat Vilakati said when reached about this yesterday. He explained that it was no secret that the PLS would deduct prize monies to get its monies back from all owing clubs by end of the season.

“Those who owe us fines have 21 days, according to the rules, to pay but we then allow them to enter into payment arrangements through gate collections but if by end of the season you still owe us, we take the rest from any prize money due to that club,” he said. Asked to specifically explain if Wanderers who have won E100 000 in the SwaziBank Cup as semi-finalists losers and could get up to E240 000 as MTN League third finishers if they beat Royal Leopard in final game, Vilakati said it was highly possible they will deduct those prize monies.
