MBABANE – The proposal to increase the number of Premier League teams next season has gained momentum as the PLS is expected to table it before the FA General Assembly.

The eight affiliates of the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) will convene for this year’s elective Annual General Meeting scheduled for June 25.

A notice has been issued in line with the constitution allowing affiliates to do their nominations and also draw propositions for constitutional amendments.

A source close to the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) Executive Committee disclosed that after last Friday’s Board of Governors meeting at the FA Technical Centre, the next step was to formalise the proposal for the FA AGM.

“There can be no implementation of the increase of teams to 14 next season without having the approval of the FA General Assembly. The PLS will submit this as one of its proposals for the meeting,” the source said.
The source was echoed by a PLS Executive Committee member, who said the issue would be subject for deliberation and approval by the FA delegates next month.

“We wish to clarify that the PLS only agreed to the increase of teams to 14, which was said should be a pilot project to see if it was feasible,” the official said on condition of anonymity.

The issue headlined the PLS Special Meeting, which had been planned to deliberate the now postponed Y’ello Sunday that was to mark the grand closing of the 2016/17 MTN League.
