MANZINI – On the rise 400m National Record holder Thandaza Zwane has set sights on next year’s XXI Commonwealth Games.

The Correctional Athletics Club athlete did not even engage the second gear to win the finals of the 400m finals in Saturday’s Athletics Association of Swaziland (AAS) Track and Field National Championships at Mavuso Sports Centre. Next year’s Commonwealth Games, commonly known as the Gold Coast 2018, is a multi-sport event for members of the Commonwealth that will be staged on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia between April 4 and 15 next year.

Thandaza holds the National Record in the 400m event with 46:99 seconds recorded at the Botswana Invite and continued with his fine form over the weekend.

“I have been working on speed at training and the results are showing. The standard internationally is higher and consistent participation will help me secure a place at the Commonwealth Games,” he said after clocking 45:90 in the event.
