MBABANE – The much anticipated Y’ello Sunday relegation clashes have been cancelled indefinitely by the PLS for security reasons.

The decision culminated from a lengthy meeting of the Premier League of Swaziland Board of Governors held at the FA Technical Centre yesterday afternoon.
The meeting was meant to inform the clubs about among other things the ending of the season tomorrow that is headlined by an unprecedented relegation battle involving Mbabane Highlanders, who face sworn rivals Mbabane Swallows, and Tambuti FC and Red Lions who face each other King Sobhuza Memorial Stadium.

The teams were also to be reported about the violence in recent games, following the verbal attack on Mbabane Highlanders directors by disgruntled supporters during the midweek 2-3 loss to Young Buffaloes.
That issue was also to trigger the debate over the validity of the patrons’ structure in teams as per the dictates of the Club Licensing dispensation.

Highlanders need to beat Swallows to survive the chop as they are now placed 11th on the log table with 19 points, two behind Tambuti and Red Lions.
PLS COO Petros Vilakati and MTN Meshack Maseko confirmed the latest decision.
Vilakati said Highlanders informed the organisation about an impending threat posed by the supporters to the directors, which started manifesting itself on Wednesday night at Somhlolo National Stadium during the 2-3 loss to Young Buffaloes.

“The team told us of a situation that occurred on Wednesday at Somhlolo National Stadium and the PLS had to make a decision after consulting the sponsor on the issue,” he said.
Maseko said he was called late last night on the security issue surrounding the Highlanders game against sworn rivals Mbabane Swallows.

“We could not substitute the game with any other, so we opted to cancel all the other games because they had an impact on the whole relegation battle. We agreed that we moved them to May 21, after having been advised that Mbabane Swallows’ next CAF Confederations Cup match after next weekend’s trip to Tunisia will be on the weekend of May 28,” he said.

On Wednesday, a section of the disgruntled supporters verbally insulted the directors who had to be escorted by police officers out of the venue, even though the situation calmed down as the team fought from 3-0 to end up losing 2-3.
The other affected games include the battle for the third place between Manzini Wanderers against Royal Leopard, which was scheduled to precede the capital city derby tomorrow at Somhlolo National Stadium. At the King Sobhuza Memorial Stadium, Green Mamba were due to face runners-up Young Buffaloes, before a relegation battle between Tambuti FC against Red Lions.
