MBABANE – Meanwhile, Our source who attended the Premier League of Swaziland Board of Governors meeting at the FA Technical Centre yesterday afternoon confided with this publication that Mbabane Highlanders representative Zweli Jele and Musa Masuku had applied for the postponement, citing the security concerns.

It was during the deliberation on the issue that the teams started discussing propositions to increase teams next season as per a proposal shelved in 2013.
“Highlanders are a big team that our elite league needs especially because of some of the agreements we have with sponsors. A genuine football decision is about to be taken and one can only hope everyone understands it,” said of the Governors when asked about the proposed move.

Another was asked how they would handle promotion and relegation as even the regions would be affected, the Governor, speaking on condition of anonymity said football can handle that as it did when clubs were reduced.
“It will also mean more games for our players which will increase their fitness for national team purposes,” said the Governor ahead of the meeting.
One governor disclosed that there was heated debate over the 16 teams issue with others openly opposed to the move.

This was after clubs were told of the difficulty that the PLS executive committee face when negotiating sponsors, if one of the country’s traditional big three teams are not in the premier league.
“It was raised that whatever is decided should be based on the constitution and that the talk about big teams should stop, because there were only older teams,” the Governor said.

The source said the matter was then referred to the executive committee to deliberate further after they were authorised to meet the league sponsor MTN this morning over the request by Highlanders to postpone their game in fear of the violent supporters.

Three seasons since promotion back to the elite, they are now just 90 minutes away from relegation and their capital city rivals Swallows who have been unbeatable in the league are the opposition – talk about matters not being in your own hands, that is what Highlanders have on their plate.
