MBABANE – Newly-crowned SwaziBank Cup champions Young Buffaloes’ bank account keeps on swelling.

Dominic Kunene’s charges, who have pocketed E1 million after winning the SwaziBank Cup ahead of Matsapha United last Sunday, will bag an extra E450 000 for finishing as runners-up to Mbabane Swallows in the  MTN Premier League.

Following Wednesday’s 2-3 win over troubled Mbabane Highlanders; their 37-point tally in the league will not be matched. Closest challengers were Manzini Wanderers and Royal Leopard, who are both on 33 points. The curtain falls on the league this weekend.

In the Ingwenyama Cup in February, Buffaloes were also runners-up to Swallows, pocketing half a million Emalangeni. In essence, the security forces side’s earnings in the season, excluding other benefits that include the E20 000 league participation fee, have shot up to E1 950 000.

Team CEO, Sandile Gwebu, felt the winnings would come in handy during the CAF Confederations Cup campaign next year. By winning the SwaziBank Cup, Buffaloes are the next representatives after Swallows in the continent’s second-tier club tournament.
“We’re relieved to get a trophy after working hard this season,” said Gwebu.

Meanwhile, teams finishing outside the top six bracket in the league will only get the E20 000 participation fee.
