LOBAMBA – Under-fire Mbabane Highlanders have found themselves in a very precarious relegation situation, where in their lowest ebb, they will have to beat Mbabane Swallows on Sunday to save themselves from another embarrassing drop from top-flight football.

This was after losing a crucial MTN League match against SwaziBank Cup champions Young Buffaloes last night, in a match watched by over 1 000 spectators – and you guessed it, the majority were behind the faltering black and white capital city giants.

What compounded their situation was that two of their fellow relegation counterparts Tambuti FC and Red Lions notched up valuable victories over Royal Leopard and Manzini Sea Birds respectively last night.  The games were played at Mayaluka Stadium and Mavuso Sports Centre. Tambuti beat the police side 2-0 to jump to position 10 on the log table with 21 points on superior goal difference to Red Lions.

Highlanders are two points from safety at 19 points.
However, victory over their sworn rivals, never mind that they are yet to lose a game this season, could guarantee them a stay in top-flight football. The reason is that Tambuti and Red Lions will play each other on Sunday at King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium where the winner could escape.

A draw could cost Red Lions if Highlanders shock the apple cart by beating the highly favoured Swallows chasing their own invincible record in the league. Last night did not look good for the Rodney ‘Stumbo’ Charles drilled side from the onset.
