MANZINI – A lone first half strike by Red Lions talisman, Solomon Oladele, was enough to move his relegation-threatened side out of the drop zone.

As the relegation dogfight took centre stage last night, the win for Dumsani ‘DU’ Makhanya’s men against 10-men Sea Birds helped them to tow fellow strugglers, Mbabane Highlanders, to the danger zone. The latter, who are now two points behind, suffered a major setback in the 2-3 loss to Young Buffaloes.

With Red Lions’ decisive fixture against strugglers Tambuti, who are only ahead on better goal difference,  they just need to beat the Lubombo-based ensemble to be guaranteed  Premier League football even next season.

It took only eight minutes for Oladele to set the tone for a flawless outing for the visitors as he showed composure in the box, to nod home the vital goal in the MTN Premier League clash played at Mavuso Sports Centre.

Sea Birds, who are already on their way to the National First Division following a disastrous campaign, had shown no resistance and were almost punished again seven minutes later, but Enzo Motsa’s effort from close range was parried to safety. It was all Red Lions, with the pair of Muntu Mamba and Oladele guilty of missing countless chances. However, they still had not increased their tally at the break.

Red Lions were still more adventurous after the re-start, with their chances headlined by Muntu’s effort, which ricocheted off the woodwork three minutes from time.
