MBABANE – The Swaziland Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Association (SWBA) is now defunct.

Weightlifters are working on establishing their own body to be known as the Swaziland Weightlifting Federation. Also, the new federation will separate from the mother body, Swaziland National Sports and Recreation Council (SNSRC).

SWBA President Horst Saylor dropped the bombshell at the height of difficulties encountered with getting recognition from SNSRC. In a lengthy interview with the Swazi News Sports Desk, Saylor revealed how frustrating it was for associations, with the exception of football, to go about with their business because of the benchmarks set by the SNSRC for recognition that includes presenting of Board minutes and financial statements.

He explained that their account was closed three years ago and he has been running the association from his pocket.
“Associations decided on putting together the SNSRC Board but now they are our employers and not the other way round. Everyone is not happy but nobody wants to talk. We have no chance to meet the council now like it happened before so that we can have our opinions got across as associations. There is no clause on that now.

What the Sports Council forgets is that apart from football, all the other associations are run by amateurs. Of course they go to courses which is something I back but they run this associations during their spare time,” Saylor said as he wondered how associations can come from zero to being professional.

Saylor, who is Chairman of the Weightlifting Technical Committee in Africa, said the complications put by the SNSRC and the Swaziland Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (SOCGA) has deprived the country’s youth from representing the country at big international events like the Olympic and Commonwealth Games.
