MBABANE – Junior golfer Arvy Shongwe is making waves in the United States of America.

The youngster got a nine-month scholarship to pursue his golf career at USA’s Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) in August last year, as exclusively revealed by this publication.

The 21-year-old combined with his Lancer teammates to win a tournament hosted by Lamar Community College with a total score of 447.
According to information shared by Kim Jones, EWC Senior Administrative Assistant, Arvy’s score of 115, which placed him ninth overall, helped his team clinch the title during the tournament played in the past week.

“The guys played great on Thursday and took full advantage of some really nice weather.  They ended the first day with a 13 stroke lead.
“They were mentally prepared for the poor weather on Friday and continued to play well until the tournament was called off after nine holes.  It was a great team win for EWC,” said Coach Zach Smith.

Arvy immediately got down to business on arrival in US. In September last year, his team celebrated another success on the greens in a similar tournament. The Ezulwini-born golfer is expected back in the country by the end of the month.
Meanwhile, the trip to the US was facilitated by InTuition Scholarships, which assists students from all over the world. Over 30 countries have already benefitted from the initiative.
