MBABANE – Manzini Sundowns have instituted an internal investigation following the defeat to Matsapha United over the weekend in the SwaziBank Cup semi-final.

The club disclosed that a mandate from the Managing Director Mark Carmichaels was to investigate circumstances that allegedly occurred before and after the game against the National First Division League side which won the tie 1-0 courtesy of Sidumo Shongwe’s glancing header.

Sundowns PRO Muzi Matsenjwa said the four-member probe team is chaired by Bongani ‘Ntjiro’ Dlamini, and has Charles Bennet as Treasurer, Sonnyboy Mabuza who is the team’s former PRO and now FA Executive Committee Member. There is also Muzi Dlamini and Vincent Mshengu who is the club’s General Manager.

He said management was concerned about the below par performance of the team against Matsapha United. He said the probe team has started its investigations and are expected to table their recommendations to the Managing Director.
“The MD has minced no words in stating that heads will roll should it be unearthed that there was neglect of duty among the team’s employees,” he said.

The team met the technical bench headed by Mlamuli ‘Sputla’ Zwane and has also lined-up a couple of players who are alleged to have been contacted by officials from another team leading to the game with the view of recruiting them for next season.
The names of the players, officials of the team cannot be revealed until the investigation is finalised.

“There is no room for mediocrity. Can it be emphasised that it is not the loss against Matsapha United that triggered the enquiry, this is secondary. Instead, it is the team’s performance on the day,” he said.
