MBABANE – National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) President Adam ‘Bomber’mthethwa is expected to be among the regional football leaders to ‘dine’ with the new CAF president Ahmad Ahmad tomorrow.

The Council of Southern Africa Football Association (COSAFA) President, Philip Chiyangwa, will lead the region’s leaders to the inaugural meeting in South Africa.

Media reports suggested Chiyangwa and the COSAFA member associations would meet with the new Confederation of African Football boss in Sandton for what would be a landmark indaba that could shape the manner in which the region will contribute to the game in the new era for African football.

“There is a strong belief that the COSAFA region could not play a key role in the continental football affairs as it was largely marginalised under former CAF president Issa Hayatou with the bloc literally coming in for recognition only during election times.

“But the tide has been changing in the African football matrix and the 14-member COSAFA region under their revolutionary leader Chiyangwa is now poised to also make a meaningful contribution to that changing landscape,” reads a report from All-Africa.

It is believed the date of the 2017 instalment of the COSAFA Senior Challenge might be confirmed after the deliberations. Indications are that the tournament will be played after the first Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches between June 9 and 12. Sihlangu’s road to the 2019 AFCON finals in Cameroon begins away in Niger. Meanwhile, Ahmad became successful at the polls in the past month to end Hayatou’s 29-year reign.
