MBABANE – An improved crowd in the SwaziBank Cup semis can be expected this weekend if last week’s figures are anything to go by.

Over 5 000 paid to watch the quarter-finals played on Saturday and Sunday as double-headers at the Somhlolo National Stadium. Precisely, 5 758 fans paid the E30 entry fee, which has been retained for the semi-finals this weekend.

“We had over 5 000 fans on Sunday, which shows how people are supporting the tournament with love. We are so grateful as an MC if the numbers keep going up and we can look forward to the same in the semi-finals,” SwaziBank Cup’s Management Committee (MC) Chairman Johannes ‘Ace’ Siboza said during yesterday’s draw.

He later confirmed that the big crowd on the day saw the four teams each go home E27 000 richer. A gross E172 740 was raised. On Saturday, a gross of E50 510 was made and the teams got E7 000 each after all deductions.

Getting the E7 000 each were Young Buffaloes, Midas City, Manzini Sundowns and Matsapha United, while Mbabane Highlanders, Manzini Wanderers, Tambuti and Vovovo got E27 000 each. Siboza also confirmed gates would open at 8am on Sunday with the Under-20 semis starting at 9am and 11am respectively before the main games at 1:30pm and 3:30pm respectively.
