MBABANE – Steels basketball club’s Richard Lubasi’s hard work has paid off as he has joined South Africa’s Vaal University under basketball scholarship.

The 21-year-old made his debut for the university last Sunday during the Johannesburg Basketball League game against MBB Basketball Club.
Lubasi has graduated from No Limits Basketball academy headed by Super Ladies coach Andile Thwala.

“We are proud to announce that one of our very own Richard Lubasi who started off as one of our campers at No Limits Basketball Academy and graduated to coaching in the camp has been accepted to VUT (Vaal university of Technology) under a basketball scholarship. We thank all the coaches who played a pivotal role in making this move a success,” he said.
Thwala said Lubasi while he will be enjoying playing basketball, he would also benefit academically.

“He needed to graduate to the next level. We are confident that he will represent the country well while in South Africa,” he said.
Meanwhile, Lubasi said he was grateful for the chance afforded by his team.

“It feels great to basically knowing that I am opening doors not just for myself but for other aspiring basketball players out there. I must say that it wasn’t easy making it but it started with attending camps particularly No Limits camp and I became a coach. Apart from that it took hours and hours of practice, making my weaknesses to be my strength and learning from the teammates and coach. Well coming to the standard of play, its higher here but Swaziland is not far behind. My mission here is to be the best that I can be and work hard to get my degree and strive to play basketball at elite level,” said Lubasi.

Steels basketball club is campaigning in the MTN SNBL E250 000 sponsored league.
No Limits Basketball Academy is based in Manzini and it focuses on grooming young kids and introduces them to the sport. It is a development academy as it has recruited some players who are now playing in the MTN SNBL.
