MBABANE – The Athletics Association of Swaziland (AAS) will send two relay teams, 4x100m and 4x400m to Wednesday’s ASA Speed Series 4 in Germiston.

AAS received an invite from Athletics South Africa (ASA) and the participating athletes in the 4x100m relay will also be allowed to compete in the 100m individual event. AAS General Secretary Thoba Mazibuko revealed the travelling team yesterday with national 100m and 200m record holders, Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa named alongside Mlandvo Shongwe, Sebenele Dlamini and Thandaza Zwane in the 4x100m relay.

A tentative five-man team compromising of Louis Mashaba, Andile Lusenga, Thandaza Zwane, Manqoba Nyoni and Mcebo Mkhaliphi has been named for the 4x400m event. This is relatively the same team that set a new national record in the same event on June 26, 2016 in the African Championships in Durban with a time of 3:12:64 minutes.
“The athletes will be looking to set new national records in Germiston,” Mazibuko said.

AAS has set a E1 000 incentive to every athlete who breaks a national record, with ‘Swazi Bolt’ being the latest receiver after clocking 10:38 seconds in the Potchefstroom Series last week.
“Mzamo Mngmetulu has been ruled out for the trip as he is nursing a hamstring injury.”
