MANZINI – A win on Friday night at Mavuso Sports Centre was not enough to confirm Matsapha United’s seemingly inevitable promotion to the Premier League just yet.

This was after Vovovo FC had won 2-0 yesterday at King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium to delay with at least a week the confirmation of the Deep Blue Sea to the elite league.
At 44 points after beating Ludzeludze Brothers 3-1 courtesy of Sabelo ‘Sawa’ Gamedze’s brace that was preceded by Dennis ‘Yuki’ Masina’s opener, they require one point to ensure their place in the big league next season. Their promotion, it should be noted, is a matter of when not if.

Second-placed Malanti Chiefs lost 3-4 to revamped Mbabane Citizens, who are pushing a late promotion surge. They are now six points off the last promotion spot currently held by Malanti Chiefs.
At the Mavuso Sports Centre on Friday night, the hymn ‘Nearer my God to thee’ reverberated inside the Matsapha United dressing room after the 3-1 victory over basement side Ludzeludze Brothers.

With a superior goal difference, Matsapha now require a point at least to confirm promotion to the elite league but a win in their next game away to Sikhalo Se-Africa will get the job done with no fears of being levelled.
A first half strike from celebrated former Swazi international ‘Yuki’, his second goal in consecutive matches since returning to the country in January, and a second half brace from full back ‘Sawa’ set Matsapha to a comfortable win here under floodlights at the Mavuso Sports Centre.

Themba Mnisi scored an 83rd consolation goal for the visitors but it was a little too late to turn around the result. Matsapha are now on 44 points while defeat did not at all end Brothers.
‘Yuki’ tapped in a Vusumuzi Zungu pass inside the box to open the scorers chart after 25 minutes. Matsapha finished the game with 10 men after marauding winger Mthobisi ‘Mkhelele’ Mdluli was sent off for a bookable offence after 39 minutes but that did not stop Matsapha from adding two more early in the second half.

Goal-bound ‘Sawa’ was nipped on the charge to win a penalty and the Sihlangu full back dusted himself and stepped up to drill it home past Sifiso Maseko at the Brothers’ goal sticks.
On the hour mark, ‘Sawa’ found himself lurking in box and scored with a volley to make it 3-0. Mnisi scored a late consolation goal for Brothers.
