MBABANE – Parliament has called elite referees’ work to be screened and punishments imposed if need be.

Eyebrows have been raised in some decisions across the playing fields and with no transparent system to bring offenders to book; Members of Parliament (MPs) have alarmed consent. Patrick Motsa, MP of Mangcongco constituency wanted to know from Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala during the ministry’s portfolio committee debate of the ministry’s 2016/17 annual performance report and budget estimates for the 2017/18 financial year, if local referees and match commissioners monitored and disciplined accordingly if need be.

In response, Ngcamphalala said the Referees Committee monitors and sanctions referees over their performances.
“Some referees have been sanctioned before except that it is not publicly announced,” Ngcamphalala told the honourable house. While other countries make it public, the RC seems content with hiding one of their own from punishments imposed. Referees Association Chairman Sipho Kunene confirmed that the RC punishes referees by not giving them matches unlike in other countries where they forfeit bonuses or receive fines.
