LAMGABHI PRIMARY SHINE IN INTER-REGIONAL ATHLETICS

MBABANE – LaMgabhi Primary School pupils have nailed down their place in the Hhohho Region Athletics team.


This was after the school produced a number of winners during yesterday’s – Swaziland Schools Sports Association (SSSA) – Hhohho inter-regional primary competitions held at Prince of Wales.
They conquered  in 800 metres, 1 500 metres, 3 000 metres, 800 metres just to mention but a few.


Siphiwe Gama who won the 3 000 metres girls said thorough training paid off.
“We have been training with my colleagues at school, usually we used to run long distances and yes I have to admit that my father used to be an athlete too during his hay days,” said Gama.
LaMgabhi Primary School Sports Teacher Khosi Manana, said they were proud of their athletes.


“This means that they are applying what we have taught them and the fact that most of them walk long distances on their way to school also works to their advantage,” said Manana.
Meanwhile, chairman of the SSSA Mbabane branch Siphesihle Simelane, said they were happy with the attendance and the standard.


“Well in the past we used to struggle when it came to inter-regional competitions and this year it’s encouraging to see that we also have good long distance runners. We will select a pick team from this crop of athletes who will represent us during the regional competitions and we are very optimistic that we will come up tops,” said Simelane.
There were 13 schools which participated during the one day competition. These schools included Mbabane Lutheran Primary, LaMgabhi, Mangwaneni, Sigangeni, Msunduza, St Marks just to mention but a few.
