MATSAPHA – The University of Swaziland (UNISWA) was in a class of its own during this year’s edition of the BOLESWA Intervarsity Games.

The games started last Saturday and ended yesterday in an eventful ceremony where the two competing institutions; UNISWA and National University of Lesotho (NUL), displayed some superlative performances during the cultural competition, which was the last event on the day.
The local institution scooped 62 gold medals while their opponents managed to walk away with 45 gold medals.

Over half of the gold medals were accumulated in swimming and athletics. In swimming, UNISWA bagged 18 golds, which was the highest in one event and it was followed by athletics, which scored 17 gold medals.
NUL were exceptional in athletics and ballroom dance in which they scooped 10 and nine gold medals respectively.

In silver and bronze medals, UNISWA were at 54 and 32 while NUL collected 43 and 15 respectively.
Speaking after receiving the championship trophy from Chief Mdlaka Gamedze, Assistant Dean of Student Affairs Hubert Maziya said they were delighted to win the trophy.

“Well, our students did us proud as they won the trophy. Last year, they did well coming second but this year they were exceptional. This was done through their determined effort, you could see from the different sporting activities that they were hungry for success and the results today are a true reflection,” said Maziya.
