MBABANE – New Sihlangu coach Pieter De Jongh is reportedly in demand in Zimbabwe despite agreeing terms with the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS).

Media reports in Zimbabwe still suggest the 46-year-old, who has coached mainly fourth division teams back home in Holland, is among the favourites to replace the sacked senior national coach Callisto Pasuwa, who steered the Warriors to the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon in January. “Some of the names that are being linked to succeed Pasuwa include former Warriors goalkeeper Bruce Grobellar, while Dutchman Pieter De Jongh’s name has been floated around as a possible replacement,” reads a report from Herald and Daily News, some of Zimbabwe’s established publications.

The Dutchman, who has agreed personal terms with Sihlangu, is still away at home, and is expected in the country by the end of next week. Indications are that De Jongh will sign on the dotted line upon arrival in Swaziland despite being offered a contract. He was interviewed via Skype. He has never been to Swaziland.

While Zimbabwe has what it takes to sway De Jongh’s decision by offering him a lucrative deal, reports of failure  by that country’s football association  to pay  Pasuwa US$100 000  (E1 297 000) in salaries and allowances could be a turn-off  for the new Swaziland gaffer. De Jongh will reportedly net over E65 000 (US$5 000) at Sihlangu per month.

Meanwhile, the coach has attracted media attention for the wrong reasons in the past years. Hungarian club, Budapest Honved, in May 2014, sacked him and further questioned his UEFA PRO Diploma.
