MBABANE – Despite Swim Lab’s dominance during the first day of the SNSA National Championships, Shark’s Nadia Volschenk came back strongly to win the girls’ category.

Volschenk, 15, proved that she was too good as she came first in a number of categories to accumulate 313 points altogether. She won in categories such as 400 metres freestyle, 100 metres butterfly and 200 metres breaststroke.
She also won the best female swimmer for the year 2016. This award was presented by South African High Commissioner to Swaziland Happy Mahlangu.

Volschenk said she was proud of her achievement and she was hoping to do well in coming competitions.
“Well, for me it all boils down to passion and training. I am happy that I won although Robyn gave me a hard time,” she said.
Meanwhile, Swim Lab’s Roby Young, who came second on 248 points, said she was motivated to compete with swimmers of Volschenk’s calibre.

“She is good and I cannot take that away but I will keep working harder and hopeful I will beat her,” said Young.
In the boys’ category, Swim Lab’s Mark Hoare was ranked first ahead of strong competitor Simanga Dlamini, also from the same team. The latter scored 295.50 while the former accumulated 299.50.
Speaking with the Sports Desk, Hoare said what motivated him was seeing tough competition from his teammates.

“Simanga is good and I like his positive attitude toward all the competitions and I guess with more training he can challenge me. For now I am the champion; he must go and train,” said Hoare.
Hoare and Dlamini were also awarded as the best male swimmers for the year 2016.
