NHLANGANO – Towering striker Phiwa Dlamini scored twice in the first half to transport Young Buffaloes to the SwaziBank Cup Last 8.

Dlamini’s joy came at the expense of elite rivals Red Lions at the King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium, which had already witnessed the fall of faltering Royal Leopard against First Division League outfit Vovovo who achieved the same feat in the Ingwenyama Cup recently.

Buffaloes joined Vovovo, Manzini Wanderers, Tambuti, Midas City and Manzini Sundowns, who all cruised to the quarter-finals yesterday during the last 16 games played at Manzini Club and Somhlolo National Stadium.
Buffaloes started the game like a house on fire and their efforts paid off just 13 minutes into the game. Dlamini broke the deadlock after he received a deceptive pass from strike partner Ndoda Mtsetfwa. He controlled the ball inside the area before unleashing a rasping shot that beat former Manzini Sundowns keeper Jim Knowledge between the poles.

Dlamini completed his brace just nine minutes before the half hour mark. He benefitted through a goal-mouth scramble and chipped the ball into the net to give his side a healthy lead and eventually a crucial win.
Red Lions, under the guidance of coach Dumisani Makhanya tried to come back into the game but the Linda Tsabedze marshalled defence stood rock solid. There was not much to write home about in the second as Buffaloes continued with their dominance but failed to increase their tally while Red Lions also missed their couple of chances until the final whistle.
