MANZINI – Long distance athlete Veli Dlamini finally turned the tables on USDF Athletics club-mate Ntokozo Dlamini in yesterday’s Athletics Association of Swaziland (AAS) Track and Field’s 5 000 metres.

Veli had in the two previous 10km events in Wafa Wafa and Golden Foot Tuff One come second best to Ntokozo. The AAS hosted its first Track and Field event at Mavuso Sports Centre in readiness for the national championships earmarked for next month.

The seasoned runner, Veli will represent the country at the World Cross Country Championships in Uganda on March 24 alongside teammate Nomvula Ntshalintshali. This event served as the perfect preparatory platform for him.
He did not only show the rest of his peers a clean pair of heels but also beat his personal best time of 14:46 minutes registered during the Ingwenyama Cup last month, clocking an improved 14:38 minutes in this particular event.
“I’m happy that a new record has been set but overall it was a good event ahead of Uganda,” he said.

His club-mate Ntokozo admitted the track was not his best after crossing the finish line four minutes later at 18:06.  Another top athlete Melusi Sihlongonyane ensured the USDF Athletics Club continued dominating long distance events as he won the 10 000m, with a time of 31:23 minutes.
